At Chiro+Merge Chiropractic Center, we believe that healthy eating is as important as a healthy nervous system that is free of subluxations.
Without proper nutrition our bodies are unable to function at 100%. The foods we put into our body is the fuel the body uses to make it run. The better the fuel, the better our bodies work at maintaining and restoring health. The worse the fuel, the worse our bodies feel and perform, ultimately causing sickness and “dis-ease”. It is the simple principle of “cause and effect”, “reaping and sowing”. The phrase, “You are what you eat”, is quite true and one of the major reasons, in addition to vertebral subluxations, that many people in our country are very sick and getting sicker.
Our society has been conditioned to believe over the last half century that it is perfectly normal to eat a meal oozing with fat and cholesterol and dozens of man-made chemicals that cannot even be pronounced by most people. They have been brainwashed to believe that it is “normal” to eat a meal of processed, adulterated foods from a tin can, cardboard box or frozen container and expect to get proper nutrition from it. A close look at what we consider “normal” and acceptable foods will reveal that there is something radically wrong with the Standard American Diet.
You must consider the consequences of accepting a diet of artificial, nutritionally void foods grown, flavored and preserved with man-made chemicals. And also consider the additional price you pay when these foods make us sick as we turn to the medical profession and its commonly accepted medical procedures such as prescription drugs, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy to cure us.
When we look at the warped logic and sad outcome of all this, we must recognize that most of the foods people eat today and the costly medical procedures we incur as a result, are doing very little to get people healthy and improve the quality of life. Our artificial modern diet and high-paid, often, inefficient medical establishment have become prime examples of the world’s way of doing things. In fact, those who profit from the processed food industry and medical procedures would like us to think that there is no other way of sustaining our bodies and maintaining health. But that is not true, there is another way, and that is what we teach at Chiro+Merge Chiropractic Center.
In the following pages, I will discuss what I believe is the best way to fuel and maintain the body. Applying these simple principles can have a dramatic effect on your health and quality of life.
At this time, I feel it is important to give you my own testimony with regard to the dietary changes I have made to improve my health. In the spring of 1997 I was challenged beyond my wildest expectations regarding the field of nutrition and the most efficient way to fuel the human body. While watching the 700 Club one morning before coming to work, I heard an interview with a man by the name of Dr. George Malkmus talking about what he called “The Hallelujah Diet”. He stated that the Standard American Diet (SAD) was made up of nearly 95% cooked food and cooking food destroys almost all of the usable nutrition that is in that food. His basic principle was simply, that life breed’s life and death breed’s death, you cannot sustain life with death, and if our diets are comprised mostly of dead foods its no wonder the majority of America is sick and experiencing a rampant increase in chronic degenerative diseases. (Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, etc.)
After hearing his testimony and nutritional information, I sent away for his two books, (“Why Christians Get Sick” & “God’s Way to Ultimate Health”). I read both of the books in less than a week and decided to change my diet for 90 days to see if what he said were true. Mind you, I didn’t think my health was that bad? I was 40 yrs. old, 5’11”, weighed 178lbs., my blood pressure was 150/90, and my resting heartbeat was approx. 90 beats per min (bpm). For almost 15 years I was doing my best to stay healthy by eating from the four basic food groups, taking 25-30 vitamins every day, exercising, and getting regular chiropractic adjustments. Nevertheless, I knew deep down inside that I wasn’t feeling as good as I should based on the fact that I was waking up tired every morning, getting dizzy and bloated after almost every meal and my overall energy level was as low as it had ever been. So, the day after Easter of 1997, I changed my diet. Within two weeks after changing my diet I began to feel my energy return, I was sleeping through the night and was clear-headed in the morning. I began to lose weight and also noticed I wasn’t always hungry. After just two months my blood pressure and heartbeat were coming down naturally without taking any medication or vitamins. At the end of four months my weight had dropped to 148lbs., my blood pressure was 113/73, my resting heartbeat was 67-72 bpm and I was feeling so good that I not only knew this would be the way I would eat for the rest of my life, but I had to share this health message with others. Since being on “The Hallelujah Diet” since 1997 my weight has leveled off at 152lbs. and my blood pressure and heartbeat remain the same as they did four months after starting the diet. I continue to get regular chiropractic adjustments, exercise daily, and the only nutritional supplements I take on a daily basis are Barley Max, Raw Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin B12, Niacin, Colloidal Silver, and live Acidophilus. I have never felt better!
So you may be asking yourself, “What is this diet all about?” I hate to use the word “diet” when I talk about nutrition because in our society it suggests something that we start for a while and than stop once we have reached our desired goals. Rather, “The Hallelujah Diet” is a long-term lifestyle plan, based on God`s original instructions to mankind in Genesis 1:29, that emphasizes the importance of raw, living plant foods and their juices. Since the body is made up of living cells, it needs living food at the cellular level. The Hallelujah Diet is designed to maximize the amount of vital nutrients that reach the body`s many cells. When the body is given the resources and conditions that it needs, it is able to maximize the built-in healing power given by the Creator.
“The Hallelujah Diet” was designed to duplicate as closely as possible God’s original diet, while at the same time, trying to make it acceptable and palatable to the masses. First, and of primary importance, you will note that raw fruits and vegetables compose 75% to 85% of the diet. Although this percentage departs from the 100% raw vegetarian diet God originally gave mankind, we find that most people are addicted to cooked food and have great difficulty, especially in the beginning, sticking with a totally raw diet.
By allowing some cooked food each day, at the end of the evening meal, the diet became doable for most people, while still producing similar results as a 100% raw diet.
Another unique feature of the diet is that it concentrates the nutrients contained in some of the raw vegetables by separating the juice from the fiber. In using a mechanical juicing machine to do this, people on the diet are able to send concentrated nutrients to the cellular level more rapidly and in greater quantity than when they eat the whole vegetable. Because the juice machine removes the fiber, the body does not have to expend energy on digestion. Instead, the energy saved can be devoted to healing and building healthy new cells.
We add Barley Max, the most concentrated and nutritionally dense food we are aware of on earth. Then to make sure we have quality fats, we include a tablespoon or two of a well-balanced oil, such as raw flax seed oil, to get the essential fatty acids we need. Finally, we add a colon cleanser with anti-parasitic properties, Fiber Cleanse, to keep the bowels clean.
With the dietary aspects out of the way, we recommend a vigorous daily aerobic exercise routine, and there you have it, “The Hallelujah Diet”. A diet that is very similar to God’s original diet.
When people adopt this diet, usually within six months or less, most bodily systems are well on their way to normalizing. In addition, the first thing most people experience is increased energy, usually within the first two weeks. Then, if a person is carrying to much weight, the excess pounds usually begin to melt away. At the same time, many physical problems start disappearing.
If you have not personally experienced “The Hallelujah Diet”, we encourage you to give it a try. If you are already on it, won’t you share it with others? Together, we can make a difference and bring health back to a very sick world.

Breakfast
Upon rising, one teaspoon of Barley Max powder - either dry and let it dissolve in the mouth, or in a couple ounces of distilled water at room temperature, but never in fruit juice. No cooked food, or food containing fiber at this meal, so as not to stop or hinder the cleansing process, as the body eliminates accumulated toxins.
Mid-Morning
An eight-ounce glass of carrot juice. If juice were not available, a piece of juicy fruit would be second best.*
Lunch
Before lunch, another teaspoon of Barley Max as at breakfast. Thirty minutes later, it’s either a raw vegetable salad or raw fruit. This also is an all-raw meal, as cooked food is limited to the evening meal. Fruit should be limited to no more than 15% of total daily food intake.
Mid-Afternoon
An eight-ounce glass of carrot juice. If juice were not available, some carrot or celery sticks would be second best.*
Supper
Before supper, another teaspoon of Barley Max as at breakfast and lunch. Thirty minutes later a LARGE green salad comprised of leaf lettuce (never head lettuce as it has very little nutritional value) along with a variety of vegetables. After the salad comes the only cooked food of the day--the 15% cooked food portion allowed on The Hallelujah Diet. This could be a baked potato, brown rice, steamed veggies, whole grain pasta, or a veggie sandwich on whole grain bread, baked sweet potato or squash. (If desired, lunch and supper can be switched, but only one meal should contain cooked food on any given day.)
Evening
If desired, a piece of juicy fruit or a glass of freshly extracted apple or pear juice may be consumed.
* Note: If it is diffcult to juice in between meals, then you could drink your juice when taking the Barley Max.
In addition to the above, the following is also a part of The Hallelujah Diet:
Fiber Cleanse - Serving recommended on container according to weight, either before leaving for work, or late morning. (Not recommended for pregnant or lactating mothers, or for long-term use.) An alternative would be 2 to 3 tablespoons of organic flax seed, freshly ground in a coffee mill, mixed into 8 ounces of distilled water or juice.
Udo’s Choice Perfected Oil Blend or Raw Flaxseed Oil - One to three tablespoons. Can be taken straight, or used on salad. Not recommended for cooking.
Vitamin B-12 - To ensure adequate B-12 intake, 1 tablet of a vegetarian, sublingual, methylcobalamin tablet three times a week.
Sunshine - Each day the sun is shining, some (15 minutes) sunshine on as much of the skin as possible, as sun is so important in the production of vitamin D.
Exercise - Physical exercise every day for a minimum of 30 minutes is extremely important. Half the time should be in aerobic activity and the remainder in resistance exercises. A stretching and fast walking program is a good place to begin.
Carrot Juice - Freshly extracted carrot juice made from large California juicing carrots is extremely important in meeting daily nutritional needs. The carrot juice, along with the Barleygreen, makes a dynamic duo in providing the body with high-octane fuel. As a maintenance program, I try to consume at least two - three 8-ounce glasses of carrot juice along with three - five teaspoons of Barley Max daily. If I had a serious physical problem today, I would increase my carrot juice to six to eight 8-ounce glasses, along with four or more tablespoons of Barleygreen daily.
Barley Max - The reason we supplement our diet with Barley Max is that, for the most part, food produced today is grown in soil that often lacks the nutrients our bodies need for building new, strong, healthy, vital, and vibrant cells. Barley Max is grown organically and contains the widest spectrum of nutrients from a single source (that we are aware of). I always consume at least three to five teaspoons daily. When starting, one to two teaspoons per day may be a good starting point, and then build up from there. This is done to prevent too rapid cleansing reactions.

The Hallelujah Diet, once understood, is very, very simple to prepare and apply. Breakfast is simply Barley Max! Lunch is a vegetable salad or some fruit, while supper consists of a raw vegetable salad followed by some cooked food. Carrot juice is the in-between meal snack. We try to follow a ratio of 85% raw and 15% cooked food each day. The cooked food usually comes only at the end of the evening meal.
The 85% Portion
This is the "Hallelujah" portion of The Hallelujah Diet, an abundance of God’s natural foods, uncooked (raw), and unprocessed. The dense living nutrients found in raw foods and their juices is what meets and satisfies the cells` nutritional needs, so that a person no longer needs to struggle with uncontrollable hunger. Live foods are also what produce abundant energy and vibrant health. Following are items from each category that fit into the 85% portion of each day’s food intake:
Beverages: Freshly extracted vegetable juices, diluted fruit juices, Barley Max, and distilled water.
Dairy Alternatives: Fresh almond milk, creamy banana milk, as well as frozen banana, strawberry, or blueberry "fruit creams."
Fruit: All fresh and unsulfured organic dried fruit. Limited to no more than 15% of daily food intake. (Fruit juice would be included in this 15%, while fruit juice is never recommended in large quantities.)
Grains: Soaked oats, millet, raw muesli, dehydrated granola, dehydrated crackers, and raw ground flax seed.
Nuts & Seeds: Raw almonds, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, and raw almond butter or tahini. Consume sparingly.
Oils & Fats: Extra virgin olive oil, Udo’s Choice Perfected Oil Blend, flax seed oil (the oil of choice for people with cancer), and avocados.
Seasonings: Fresh or dehydrated herbs, garlic, sweet onions, parsley and salt-free seasonings.
Soups: Raw soups.
Sweets: Fruit smoothies, raw fruit pies with nut/date crusts, date-nut squares, etc.
Vegetables: All raw vegetables.
The 15% Portion
The following foods make up the 15% portion of The Hallelujah Diet. These are the cooked foods that follow the raw salad at the evening meal. This cooked food portion can be very delicious, and actually proves beneficial for those trying to maintain body weight.
Beverages: Caffeine-free herb teas and cereal coffees, along with bottled organic juices.
Dairy: Non-dairy cheese, rice milk, soy milk and organic butter, all sparingly.
Fruit: Stewed and unsweetened frozen fruits.
Grains: Whole-grain cereals, breads, muffins, pasta, brown rice, millet, etc.
Oils: Mayonnaise made from cold-pressed oils.
Seasonings: Light Gray Celtic Sea Salt. (Use sparingly)
Soups: Soups made from scratch without fat, dairy, or table salt.
Sweeteners: Raw, unfiltered honey, rice syrup, unsulfured molasses, stevia, carob, pure maple syrup, date sugar. (Use very sparingly.)
Vegetables: Steamed or wok-cooked fresh or frozen vegetables, baked white or sweet potatoes, squash, etc.

These foods are what create most of the physical problems we experience, and are not a part of The Hallelujah Diet. They should be eliminated from the diet as quickly as possible.
Beverages: Alcohol, coffee, tea, cocoa, carbonated beverages and soft drinks, all artificial fruit drinks, including sports drinks, and all commercial juices containing preservatives, salt, and sweeteners.
Dairy: All milk, cheese, eggs, ice cream, whipped toppings, and non-dairy creamers.
Fruit: Canned and sweetened fruits, along with non-organic dried fruits.
Grains: Refined, bleached flour products, cold breakfast cereals, and white rice.
Meats: Beef, pork, fish, chicken, turkey, hamburgers, hot dogs, bacon, sausage, etc. All meats are harmful to the body and the cause of up to 90% of all physical problems.
Nuts & Seeds: All roasted and/or salted seeds and nuts. Peanuts are not a nut, but a legume, and very difficult to digest.
Oils: All lard, margarine, and shortenings. Anything containing hydrogenated oils.
Seasonings: Table salt, black pepper, and any seasonings containing them.
Soups: All canned, packaged, or creamed soups containing dairy products.
Sweets: All refined white or brown sugar, sugar syrups, chocolate, candy, gum, cookies, donuts, cakes, pies, or other products containing refined sugars or artificial sweeteners.
Vegetables: All canned vegetables, or vegetables fried in oil.

THE FIVE WHITES
Meat
Meat contains white fat. The average American meat eater puts over 50 pounds of fat (cholesterol) into his or her body each year! This fat clogs the arteries, which ultimately causes the heart attacks and strokes that will kill approximately 50 percent of our population. Meat is also the culprit in causing colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and other forms of cancer. Cancer is responsible for 33 percent of American deaths. And meat is the primary cause of adult-onset diabetes, which kills 9 percent of our population. Meat also causes gout, arthritis, and a host of other physical problems. We are told that we need meat for protein and strength. However, we are not told that the cooking of meat changes the molecular structure of the protein and renders the protein in meat unusable by the body. If we look to nature, we will find that there is not a single animal in the wild that cooks the flesh it eats! More than twenty-five years of research has revealed meat, as it is produced today, to be the single most dangerous food that we put into our body.
Dairy
Dairy is the second most dangerous substance we can put into our bodies for many of the same reasons. We are told milk is the perfect food and needed for calcium. But we are not told that the pasteurizing of milk (heating it to temperatures of 160 degrees or higher) changes the calcium to an inorganic form, which cannot be assimilated by the body. In nature no animal pasteurizes its milk . . . and no animal drinks the milk of another species, nor does it ever drink milk after the age of weaning. The only source of bad cholesterol (LDL) is animal products! Animal products are not good food!
Salt
Salt is another white substance that creates untold physical problems and suffering. The body needs sodium, but it must be in an organic form in order to be usable by the body. Table salt, sodium chloride, is an inorganic sodium compound formed by the union of sodium and chlorine that is extremely toxic to the body. This toxicity causes the body to retain fluid in an effort to keep this protoplasmic poison in suspension and out of the cells.
Sugar
Sugar is the fourth white substance creating our physical problems. Sugar is so changed and concentrated from its original plant form . . . that it is actually a drug! Just 10 teaspoons (approximately the amount found in one soft drink) will immobilize the immune system by about 33 percent. Approximately 30 teaspoons of sugar will shut down the immune system for a whole day.
White Flour
White flour has had all the good substances (bran and germ) removed during processing. Then it is bleached, sometimes with a bleaching agent similar to Clorox. Finally, some coal-tar-derived (carcinogenic) vitamins are added, and it is sold to the unsuspecting public as "enriched." White flour is not good food . . . in fact it is hazardous to your health!
Drugs
In addition to these five white substances, we must also consider the impact of drugs on our bodies. Most people are aware of how dangerous alcohol and nicotine are to the body, but they fail to realize that the caffeine in coffee, tea, and soft drinks is also an extremely dangerous substance. Caffeine is called a stimulant because it excites all of the nerve endings in an effort to rid the body of this poisonous substance. If a person drinks over two or three cups of coffee a day on a regular basis, they will usually develop severe drug withdrawal headaches if they suddenly stop drinking it. Alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine are dangerous drugs.
